MAMF Annual Awards Celebration

Date: April 4, 2022

The Masters’ Association of Metal Finishing (MAMF) Annual Awards Celebration was held this past Saturday, April 2, at the Chart House, Weehawken, NJ.  With over fifty attendees, this long-standing event drew participants from across the tri-state area to honor those that have created the legacy that has shaped the hundred plus year old MAMF.

MAMF Vice President Bob Chabot noted, “The evening was very special for our association. We gathered to not only celebrate accomplishments, but also to pay tribute to a dear departed friend who meant so much to each of us individually and was a stalwart of the MAMF.”

The MAMF honored Past President Lina De La Cruz for her service as two term President of the MAMF.  In addition, the MAMF awarded its first educational scholarship to Kayla Matari whose grandmother is an employee of Little Falls Alloys, Patterson, NJ.  Kayla received $2,500 towards her collegiate plans of becoming a nurse. The 2022 MAMF Scholarship is a significant award, given in honor of Stephen V. Candiloro, Jr.  Stephen championed the importance and dedication to continued education in the metal finishing industry.

In addition, the MAMF posthumously presented Stephen V. Candiloro, Jr. the Claude Blaser Memorial Award. The Claude Blaser Memorial Award is the highest Award of the MAMF and is presented rarely, only to that special person who has gone far beyond any other award given by the MAMF.  An honoree of this award is someone whose lifetime accomplishments exceed the requirements of any award customarily bestowed by the MAMF.  This award has only been presented four times in the history of the MAMF, previously presented to Jeff Hannapel, Bob Sica, David Norwine, and Herb Tilton.

Paul Brancato, MAMF and NASF Past President, Dianne Candiloro, Samantha Candiloro, and Carmela Brueggemann, and Robert Chabot, MAMF Vice President.

MAMF Past President and NASF Past President, Paul Brancato remarked, “Giving out the Award with Bob to Dianne and family was very emotional to me.  Having a number of key Epner employees really brought home to me all that JR meant to me and Epner as a whole.  He is missed to this day almost 2 years later.”

The Claude Blaser Award was presented to Stephen “JR” Candiloro for his leadership, friendship, humility, and good fellowship to all surface finishers throughout his lifetime of service to the Masters’ Association of Metal Finishers and the Industry.

National Surface Finishing Day 2022

Date: January 3, 2022

National Surface Finishing Day will be celebrated March 2, 2022. The annual event is a way to showcase the industry to local trade schools, businesses, officials and media, as well as to celebrate employees and staff.  Each year Products Finishing partners with thousands of finishing operations in the U.S. to celebrate National Surface Finishing Day (NSFD) on the first Wednesday in March. NSFD is designed to celebrate and showcase the industry to trade schools, businesses, officials and media, as well as to celebrate employees and staff.  The overarching goal of NSFD is to bring further awareness to the important roles plating and coating facilities play in their communities. Facilities are encouraged to host events and work with local media to build awareness about the contributions made by the surface finishing industry. For a helpful guide to reaching out to media outlets, download the NSFD toolkit here.

How can you celebrate?

  • Share your company’s story
  • Hold an open house where the public can check out your facility –— either in person or virtual
  • Offer student shop tours to local trade schools
  • Invite local elected officials to visit and get to know your staff
  • Celebrate your employees
  • Share news about what you’re doing on social media and use the hashtag #NationalSurfaceFinishingDay

Last year was one of the largest NSFD celebrations Products Finishing has held with a large number of companies including Hubbard Hall, Bales Metal Surface Solutions, Global Finishing Solutions, SIFCO ASC, Precision Finishing and many others posting online celebrations in various formats from videos to free webinars. Below are a couple of sentiments from the day. National Association for Surface Finishing, Jeff Brassard stated, “It’s worth taking a moment today to recognize the contributions of our industry that are more vital than ever.” Haviland Enterprises posted the following: “Let’s take a moment on this National Surface Finishing Day and appreciate all of the work that goes into keeping this world a beautiful place. Without the decorative and functional coatings we apply to products used across the globe, our world would be left to rust. Make sure the materials in your life will be around for a lifetime by giving them the best finish possible.  NSFD will be held on March 2, 2022 — let us know how you’re celebrating. Post your story, share photos of your event, and tell the world about the important work you do. Remember to use the hashtag #NationalSurfaceFinishingDay.
